My husband and I (Kara) have traveled to quite a few places throughout Europe in our almost, two years living here in Germany, but the Alsatian region of France is one of our favorites. As it is less than two hours from our home, it is quite an easy destination to visit. We try to take all our visitors there as it is so picturesque and the people who live there are kind and welcoming. My first trip there was the European Patchwork Festival in Sainte Marie Aux Mines—one of my favorite quilt shows ever! You can read about that visit
here and

Earlier this week, I was able to travel with a group for a tasting tour of Strasbourg, France. Strasbourg is a beautiful "small" city right on the Rhine river in Alsace, making it a popular stop for river cruise ships. It can be quite crowded and touristy, but our tour yesterday took us through some less populated places and some wonderful, Alsatian food destinations. Of course, much of my picture taking had less to do with food and more to do with what might inspire our stitching! Come with me as we wander the streets of Strasbourg, France finding not just food to eat but a feast for the eyes and maybe a little bit of stitching inspiration.

I love the expressions on these statues! The apple held by the statue on the left
signifies the one that tempted Eve. |

Windows still decorated from Easter. |

You can even purchase architectural, mementos for your home! |
As this was a tasting tour, we were able to sample some of the wonderful, regional, delicacies produced by local artisans who are passionate about keeping the historical, integrity of the items they make.

Our last stop was for locally, produced, gingerbread. |
|
Happy gingerbread makers! |
After our tasting tour, we had time to wander on our own and of course my first stop was going to be a local fabric store.
|
Mostly yarn and dressmaking fabric, but a lovely shop nonetheless. |
|
Lots of ribbons. |
|
They had me at mushrooms! |

The sun came out at the end of our time there to warm us up which was a perfect ending to a wonderful, inspiring day. I hope you have enjoyed our little wander through Strasbourg and maybe you will find a little Alsatian inspiration as well!
What a lovely tasting tour! My husband and I are visiting Alsace shortly as we have been invited by a friend to lunch at Au Crocodile in Strasbourg.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me the name of that fabric store? I may have time to slip away and explore it on my own....
We both enjoy Alsace and all the lovely small towns. We have some good memories from previous visits. Especially in the summer with all the geraniums in bloom.
The fabric store is La Droguerie Strasbourg. It is a fun store with lots of goodies. Have a wonderful time!
DeleteThanks for sharing these gorgeous photos. Luckily I spend all my calories on Fabric otherwise I would come home from Europe 100 pounds heavier. Everything looks so delicious!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! The food is always wonderful there—especially the bread!
